Alcoholism Effects and Treatment

February 3rd, 2012 by admin

www.quitdrink4life.com Alcoholism not only effects your body and mind it also effects the people around you including your family. If you feel you may need help for your alcohol addiction please check out the number 1 home based program Quit Drink 4 Life. Alternatively have a look at http for some great free advice on how to stop drinking.

I never could drink, I was the one after 2 drink would get sick, so I ended up not drinking when I went out with my friends. I became the designated driver which was OK with me. So I would sip my seltzer water all night and drive my friends home, knowing in the morning I wouldn’t have a hang-over! I was never a shy person so I never needed a drink to be more outgoing. In fact if I did have a drink I became too quiet and not social at all! I just wanted to be left alone, so drinking seltzer water when I went out was OK with my friends.  My husband doesn’t drink because he is a diabetic. When we go out we drink seltzer water with a twist of lime and do not feel weird or uncomfortable because we are not having alcohol. We have just as much fun and maybe even more because we are not harming our bodies with alcohol.

Alcohol Addiction is Dangerous – Do Not Let Your Addiction Ruin Your Family

October 21st, 2009 by admin

NoAlcoholicsThere are many forms of addiction that can ruin any family. One of these is alcoholism; it is where teenager first started experimenting before they were encouraged to harder substance like drugs. While it certainly common for teenager to experiment, it is best to stop it while they are still young.

Drinking alcohol is not exactly bad. The danger lies when that person becomes too dependent on alcohol that they need to drink first before they can function properly. Their behavior had dramatically changed; it is the time where it’s safe to say that alcoholism had already set in. Sooner or later the alcohol would completely take over the body and mind of the addict. As soon as the family appreciate the degree of the problem, it is imperative to find proper treatment to treat the addiction.

The right treatment is vital to overcome alcoholism. But it must be done immediately and it would be best for all concerned to find a counseling center that would help stop the addiction. There is quite a number of support center or group like the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) that provides advice and support to the family. Aside from this, there are also treatments facilities that are treating alcoholism.

Joining AA is the first of many steps in fighting addiction. They organize support system for free every hour on major town and almost every part of the city around the country meetings are given for those traveling alcoholics. Now they even give special group meetings for teenagers who are combating alcoholism.

Addiction requires radical treatment most especially if the addict is a teenager. There are schools nowadays that have living amenities for youth to stay where the environment is controlled. This program insures that access to alcohol or any substance is limited and possibly none at all. Even so, it is best to first consult with a counselor to determine if the inpatient program is the suitable treatment.

Probably the most significant aspect of treating addiction among teenager is the situation with the parents. If the parent itself is an alcoholic then most certainly the teenager is following the behavior of the adult. A home where there is no harmony will definitely force the child to alcoholism. If these are the situation it is better to look for a counselor who will council and assist the entire family. Treating the addict only will not be enough.

Alcoholism is a disease that can be cured. If the person wishes to have a normal and functional life, the first and foremost step is to recognize the problem. After that, everything would fall into place.

Alcohol Addiction Symptoms and Signs

October 21st, 2009 by admin

alcohol addiction symptoms

Alcohol is a word that appears so much in our daily lives and culture that it is difficult for a non-alcoholic to imagine a life of alcohol addiction. Yet, no matter how much one may despise the term and the addiction, psychiatrists describe an alcoholic as one who exhibits any or all of these qualities: an irresistible thirst for alcohol, total loss of control once he or she starts drinking, and a certain tendency of relapse into the addiction after a session of rehabilitation.

Effects of alcohol: Alcohol dependency can have serious and deleterious effects on the individual’s health, and more importantly, on the family.

Some of the physical effects of alcohol addiction are liver cirrhosis; damage to the nervous system and pancreas, heart disease, alcoholic neuritis, and sexual dysfunction and related disorders, any of which can be a cause of death in the alcohol addict.

By far, the greatest reason for which alcohol is considered a social evil is the effect it has on the family. Children of Alcoholics (COAs) experience the effects of having an alcoholic parent or sibling from the earliest stages of their upbringing. Alcoholic parents are proven beyond doubt to be vastly inferior as caregivers.

Most alcoholic parents generally discourage their children from socializing. They are known to be unpredictable, volatile and inconsistent in dealing with children. They transmit most of the symptoms of their addiction to their children, who suffer psychosomatic ailments like depression, headache, eating disorders, stomach upsets and insomnia. COAs are almost certain to develop learning disabilities.

Worst of all, these negative influences and effects grow into their adulthood, since childhood impacts emotional development of later life greatly. Such children normally have tendencies like fretfulness, undue nervousness and maladjustment with society, and usually become unsuccessful parents themselves.

It is common to find that the education of such children gets disrupted because huge portions of the family income get spent on alcohol consumption by the addict in the family. When these children, bereft of love, try to find other avenues from which they can fill this lacuna at home, there are good chances of their ending up looking for the missing emotional comfort with the wrong people. This can lead to further family and social tensions. They could find solace in such habits as drugs or alcohol itself, or worse, crime.

Domestic violence, one of the most important products of alcoholism, costs the American economy anywhere between $ 3 billion and $ 10 billion a year by way of losses caused by absenteeism, health care costs, reduced employee turnover and so on.

Withdrawal symptoms: these can often lead to various complications. These include nausea, sweating, nausea and continuous shaking of the hands.

Addiction treatment programs: alcoholism addiction treatment programs take up long term, step-by-step methods in helping the addict deal with the addiction. A detox center first rids the body of the toxins the addiction would have brought in.

Drug and alcohol rehab centers try to inculcate coping techniques in the addict. A treatment center comes up with detailed counseling, supportive programs and encourages interaction with self help groups. Some rehabs encourage harm-reduction techniques such as group therapy, psychotherapy, medication, rationing and moderation of the drink and nutritional supplementation.

Finding the best alcoholism addiction treatment programs is a necessity in today world. Realizing the fact the author of this article has analyzed alcohol addiction He knows how to find the best Drug and alcohol rehab centers. He has helped many people to find the best programs available out there.
